What the specs mean
Speed. Treat the 37 mph figure with caution. Most single-motor scooters on a 48V battery top out somewhere in the mid-20s mph in real riding, and rider weight, hills and battery level all lower the top speed. Whatever its real top speed, the S5 is a fast scooter that needs an experienced rider, a full-face or certified helmet and protective gear.
Range. A 48V 13Ah battery holds about 624 Wh. At sensible speeds, most adults can expect roughly 20 to 25 miles; riding fast cuts that sharply.
Comfort. Dual suspension and 10-inch off-road tires make the S5 far more comfortable than budget commuters on broken pavement and gravel.
Rules. Many US cities and states cap scooters at 15 to 20 mph, so the S5’s top speed may not be legal on public roads where you live. Check your local rules.
US S5 vs EU S5
In Europe, JOYOR sells the S5 in road-legal versions such as the S5 ABE, which are limited to 20 or 25 km/h and use a 500W motor with the same 48V 13Ah battery. European listings give a weight of about 22 kg (49 lb) and a maximum load of 120 to 150 kg. If you are reading European reviews, remember they may describe a slower, speed-limited version.
Advantages
- Dual suspension and 10-inch off-road tires
- Front and rear disc brakes and turn signals
- Large 48V 13Ah battery
- Folds quickly
Limitations
- 37 mph claim is optimistic for this setup
- Top speed may exceed local legal limits
- Heavy, around 49 lb in EU listings
- 6–8 hour charge

Who should buy it
The S5 suits experienced riders who want a comfortable, suspended scooter for longer commutes on rough roads, and who will respect local speed limits. New riders and anyone who needs a light scooter to carry should look at a slower commuter.
