This page lists every recall of a hoverboard, electric scooter, electric unicycle, Onewheel or electric skateboard announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) since 2016: 43 recalls covering about 2,043,630 units. Each row links to the official CPSC notice, so you can check your model, the hazard and what the company offers.
We built it from the CPSC recall database and update it when new recalls are announced. Last checked: 17 October 2026. It does not include e-bikes or non-electric children’s scooters.
- 25 hoverboard recalls (about 1,429,700 units), 21 of them for battery fires in 2016 and 2017, before the UL 2272 standard became the norm.
- 13 electric scooter recalls (about 279,730 units). Recent ones are mostly mechanical: folding latches, stems, forks and brakes.
- 5 recalls of electric unicycles, Onewheels and e-skateboards (about 334,200 units).
- 28 of the 43 recalls are for fire hazards from lithium-ion batteries. CPSC notices report deaths in two of them: the Jetson Rogue hoverboard (two deaths in a house fire) and the Onewheel crash recall (four deaths).

How to check whether your hoverboard or scooter is recalled
- Find the exact model. Look for the brand, model name and serial number on the box, the underside of the board, or the scooter deck. Many recalls cover only certain serial numbers or sale dates.
- Search the table below with Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on a Mac) for your brand or model.
- Open the CPSC notice and compare the photos, model numbers and sale dates.
- If it matches, stop using it. For fire recalls, also stop charging it and keep it away from living spaces until you have contacted the company.
- Contact the company listed in the notice for the refund, repair or replacement. Some 2016 recalls have no remedy left because the seller went out of business.
- Dispose of recalled batteries safely. Never put a lithium-ion pack in household trash. See our battery disposal guide.

What the recalls tell us
The hoverboard fire wave is mostly history. Nearly all hoverboard recalls date from 2016 and 2017, when cheap boards with uncertified battery packs were sold everywhere. Since then UL 2272 certification, which tests the battery, charger and electrical system together, has become the norm at major retailers. Fires still happen with uncertified or damaged boards, which is why the 2023 Jetson Rogue and Hover-1 Helix recalls matter.
Scooter recalls are now mostly mechanical. The recent electric scooter recalls (Segway Ninebot Max G30P, Segway P100, Apollo City and Phantom, Razor Icon, Hover-1 Dynamo) involve folding latches, stems, forks, bolts and brakes. Check your folding latch and stem for play every week, and stop riding if anything creaks, flexes or wobbles.
Certification labels can be faked. The 2025 Transpro recall covered scooters whose batteries carried unauthorized UL labels. Buy from a known brand and a reputable seller, and be wary of very cheap listings from unknown sellers.
How to lower the risk with any board or scooter
- Buy hoverboards certified to UL 2272 and e-scooters certified to UL 2272 or UL 2849.
- Charge on a hard surface, away from exits and anything flammable, and only while someone is home and awake.
- Use the original or an exact-match certified charger.
- Stop using any battery that swells, smells, leaks, gets very hot or makes popping sounds.
- Register your product with the manufacturer so it can contact you about recalls.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my hoverboard is recalled?
Find the brand, model and serial number on the board or box, then look for it in the table above and open the CPSC notice to compare photos, model numbers and sale dates. You can also search CPSC.gov/Recalls.
What should I do with a recalled hoverboard or scooter?
Stop using it, and for fire recalls stop charging it too. Contact the company named in the CPSC notice for the refund, repair or replacement it offers. Never throw a lithium-ion battery in household trash; take it to a battery recycling drop-off.
Are hoverboards still a fire risk in 2026?
Much less than in 2015 and 2016, because most boards sold by major retailers are now UL 2272 certified. Uncertified, damaged or badly charged boards can still catch fire, so buy certified and follow safe charging habits.
Which electric scooters have been recalled recently?
Recent CPSC recalls include the Apollo City (2025), Transpro scooters (2025), Segway Ninebot Max G30P and G30LP (2025), Swagtron SG-5 Swagger 5 Boost (2025), Segway Ninebot P100 (2024), Razor Icon (2024) and Hover-1 Dynamo (2024).
