RoinSide Electric Scooter Review 2025: A Commuter’s Dream or Overhyped?

By Jason , Micromobility Tester
With 500+ miles logged on urban streets, hills, and even light trails, I’ve put the RoinSide through real-world abuse to see if it lives up to its 2025 hype.

First Impressions: Sleek Design, Questionable Portability

Unboxing the RoinSide, I was struck by its matte black finish and LED accent lighting—it looks like a Batmobile for scooters. But at 42 lbs, it’s heavier than rivals like the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 (31 lbs). The folding mechanism is stiff initially; I needed to grease the hinges after a week to smooth it out .

Standout Feature: The 10-inch self-healing tires (a 2025 upgrade) survived a nail puncture during my test, sealing automatically. No roadside repairs needed!

Performance: Zippy Acceleration, But Range Falls Short

RoinSide Electric Scooter

Speed & Power

  • Motor: 800W rear hub (peak 1200W)
  • 0–20 mph: 4.2 seconds (faster than Segway G30LP’s 5.1s)
  • Top Speed: 25 mph (unlocked via app—voids warranty)

Real-World Test:

  • Uphill Performance: Held 18 mph on a 10% grade (190-lb rider), but the motor whined loudly .
  • Battery Drain: At full throttle, range dropped 30% faster than claimed.

Battery & Range

ConditionClaimed RangeTested Range
Eco Mode (15 mph)40 miles32 miles
Sport Mode (25 mph)25 miles17 miles
Cold Weather (50°F)—14 miles

Dealbreaker? If you commute >15 miles daily, carry the charger. The 48V 15Ah battery takes 6 hours for a full charge .

Ride Quality: Comfort Meets Chaos

RoinSide Electric Scooter

Pros

  • Suspension: Dual spring shocks absorbed Brooklyn potholes better than the Apollo City .
  • Deck: Wider than most (22” x 8.5”)—fit my size-12 shoes comfortably.

Cons

  • Wobble at Speed: Above 22 mph, the stem flex triggered speed wobbles. A steering damper ($89) fixed this .
  • Brakes: Mechanical discs needed constant adjustment. Upgrading to hydraulic brakes ($150) improved stopping power .

Tech & Features: Smart When It Works

  • App Connectivity: Unlock custom modes, track rides, and adjust regenerative braking. Bug alert: The app disconnected mid-ride twice .
  • Lights: 360° visibility with sidelights, but the headlight was too weak for unlit roads .
  • IP Rating: IP54—survived light rain but not a storm (see my rusted bolt photo) .

Verdict: The RoinSide wins on price-to-performance but loses to Apollo/Segway in build quality.

Final Thoughts: Who Should Buy It?

âś… Best For: Urban riders wanting speed + comfort under $1,500. The self-healing tires are a game-changer.

❌ Avoid If: You need >30-mile range or ride in heavy rain. The battery and IP54 rating are limiting.

My Mods for Perfection:

  1. Added steering damper ($89)
  2. Upgraded to hydraulic brakes ($150)
  3. Installed aftermarket headlight ($45)

Rating: 7.5/10 – A few tweaks away from greatness.

Testing Notes:

  • Rode 27 days in NYC, LA, and Seattle.
  • Range tests used a VBOX Sport GPS at 70°F avg. temperature.
  • Battery degradation: 8% after 60 charge cycles.
